Mr. Kohlmann will speak about, The Antisocial Network: Countering the Use of Online Social Networking Technologies by Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

In the last several years, new channels have emerged for terrorist recruitment, financing, and propaganda – social media sites.  Terrorists are exploiting these social media platforms – to include YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, as well as an array of chat forums – to attract followers, including U.S. citizens, who are sympathetic to violent extremism.  These individuals are subsequently using social media sites to connect with other like-minded individuals, discuss their plans, and radicalize others.  In this presentation, NBC News analyst and government consultant Evan Kohlmann will discuss how collecting and analyzing information from social media sites can facilitate the identification of potential terrorists, their linkages, and their intentions.
