Law Enforcement Workshop

Abstract:  Emily Vacherwill discuss how Facebook works with industry partners and law enforcement to combat crimes against children.  She will present the latest safety and privacy controls available to prevent and reduce risks for users of the site.  Emily will also explain how law enforcement can further investigations and prosecutions through the use of Facebook tools and the submission of legal process to Facebook.

Biography:  Emily Vacher joined Facebook in 2011 and is currently the Trust & Safety Manager.  She is responsible for managing law enforcement relations, including incoming requests and outgoing case referrals, as well as law enforcement and security policy matters. 

Prior to joining Facebook, Emily was a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for more than a decade, leading a broad range of federal investigations.  Specializing in Crimes Against Children matters, Emily served on the Innocent Images National Response Team, the Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team, and served as a supervisor in the Undercover and Sensitive Operations Unit.  Emily was an FBI legal advisor, a National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime coordinator, and a member of the FBI’s Operational Medicine Program.  Prior to the FBI, she was an attorney in private practice in New York.  Emily holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, an MS degree from the Syracuse University School of Education, an MPA from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, and a JD from the Syracuse University College of Law.
